Ruapehu Scout Lodge

Mount Ruapehu Lodge

This beautiful lodge is situated at the top of the Bruce Road, at an altitude of 1600m, on the Chateau side of Mount Ruapehu.  It provides accommodation for 31 people in 3, 4, 5 and 6-person bunkrooms.

These high-quality facilities include kitchen and dining equipment, a comfortable lounge with a CD player, central heating, hot and cold water, mattresses and pillows.  Food is provided but users must take their turn in cooking and general housekeeping.  Duty Managers oversee the operation of the building and they rely on the cooperation of everyone staying in the lodge to look after the facilities.

Who can use the Lodge?

ANYONE can stay at the lodge - although SCOUTS New Zealand members are given preference.  Scouts and Venturers with Leaders will get first priority on the facilities, Rovers, Leaders and supporters will get next priority.  Cubs may only use the facilities during the summer season.

Summer Activities

The Lodge is an ideal base for summer activities on the mountain.  The Department of Conservation, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, and many other tourist operators run activities to suit all ages and fitness levels.  The Department of Conservation's Tongariro Taupo Summer Programme from the end of December to the end January is a popular way of exploring the area.  Many activities can also be done later in the summer season as freedom activities.
