NATIONAL SCHOOLS

SCOUTS New Zealand is proud to provide for its youth members a number of specialised National Schools. In accordance with our desire to get young people into the outdoors, our National Schools form a core part of SCOUTS in New Zealand and offer unique training in specialised areas.

Scouts and Venturers learn skills specific to their interests, have unforgettable experiences, and leave with lifelong friends. 

Aviation School

The Aviation School, for Scouts, is run every year and gives attendees the chance to both fly a plane, and learn about the aviation industry. It gives attendees a unique insight into the basics of flight and is a useful stepping stone for those interested in all aspects of aviation.

Canoe School

The Canoe School, for Venturers and Scouts 14+, is run every year and sees attendees make their way down the Whanganui River. With a large number of rapids to work their way through down the river, attendees are given tuition in canoe & kayak handling and safe navigation of river systems.

Caving School

Venturers and Scouts 14+ For those wanting to spend some more time under the ground than above it, our National Caving School is ideal. The attendees receive expert tuition in caving and rope skills in order to be safe underground and continue exploring New Zealand's numerous underground networks.

Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School

For Venturers 16+ the Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School is one of SCOUTS New Zealand's most well known National Schools. It gives attendees the ability to learn to fly solo and is a fantastic stepping stone for a career in the aviation industry. The school runs every year in January and fills out quickly.

Mountaincraft School

For Venturers 15+ and Rovers this specialised National School gives attendees the skills needed to stay safe in New Zealand's wild apline environments. Attendees learn essential safety skills and even build snow caves.

Photography School

Based in Wellington every year this school for Scouts and Venturers is run by professional photographers. Although not as physically demanding as our other National Schools, the skills learnt are extremly valuable and the portfolios produced are to an exceptional standard.

Snow School

For Scouts 13+ and Venturers the National Snow School teaches attendees how to either ski or snowboard. It is a fun-filled time and attendees always comment on how exciting it is to spend the time on the slopes in such an educational environment.
