SCOUTS JOB WEEK
SCOUTS Job Week is due to start on the 16th September and concludes 9th October and we will be launching the event between 5th and 12th September.
As part of the growth and development of Scouting around New Zealand, SCOUTS Job Week is a very visible annual activity that epitomises the service aspect of Scouting.
It also provides a great fundraising opportunity for Scout Groups and work experience for the youth involved.
To this end we want to gain as much publicity as we can, nationally and locally so that everyone is aware that Scouts are out in their communities looking for tasks to help.
At a National level the NZ Defence Force is preparing to assist by providing access to three locations around NZ for Scouts to go and engage with them as last year. The locations for this year will be Auckland, Devonport Naval Base, Palmerston North, Linton Army Camp and Blenheim, Base Woodbourne.
For each of these locations we need a Scout Group to be involved with the activities established at each point. This will be an exciting opportunity for the Scouts as they will get to engage closely with the personnel and possibly get to go inside or even ride in some of the equipment the Armed Forces manage.
By the 15th August we would like to have the contact details of each Group that will be going to the three NZ Defence Force locations. Please contact your Regional Development Manager if your group is interested.
The Warehouse is again supporting us in the two weekends (3rd & 4th and 10th & 11th Sept) leading up the 16th September by again allowing us to operate in their stores either through helping shoppers or using their BBQ’s for a sausage sizzle.
Group leaders need to contact their local The Warehouse stores to organise and coordinate this. Please do this as soon as possible.
As with last year, The Warehouse will run in store banners promoting SCOUTS Job Week and may put the information on their flyers that get distributed to every home in the country.
The SCOUTS in Warehouse stores may have the opportunity for:
· Greeting customers
· Packing shopping bags at checkouts
· Promote their SCOUTS Job Week (customers will be able to sign up to have odd jobs completed).
· Run the community BBQ
It is the manager’s discretion as to what tasks the SCOUTS help out with.
Every Zone will conduct some activity that will get them into their community paper. This can be anything from clearing a local stream or beach to an activity like abseiling off the Sky Tower (last year’s challenge). Contact your Zone leader’s to find more information on this.
