Latest Cub News - 17 June 2010

Trinity Scouts had a Group Camp at Camp Rutherford, Whitford from Friday 19th March to Sunday 21st March. The theme was Castaway Pirates. 11 Keas, 19 Cubs, 10 Scouts, and 10 Leaders attended and for most of the Keas this was their first camp.

Needless to say they all had a wonderful time. Some of the weekend activities were a Burma Trail, waterslide, making damper, raft making, treasure hunt and many more. A campfire was held onthe bottom field in which Matt & Jocelyn Gardner attended. Sunday morning a Scouts Own was held at Rutherford Chapel. It was a great weekend with wonderful weather and great leadersupport.

Waiheke Cubs have had an awesome term with lots of swimming, boating, raft building, bush walks, obstacle course and a fishing tournament. Term One ended with a group BBQ at Little Oneroa where one leader and 12 new Keas were invested.

At the moment the Group has 22 Keas, 24 Cubs and 12 Scouts with a second Cub Pack starting up next term with 14 new Cubs registered already. The Group is going from strength to strength and the kids are having a ball.

Term Two geared up to be a biggy, with trips to the Police and St Johns, a visit from the Coastguard Rescue Boat, a hugely popular games night, Cubs sitting the Cycling Badge and finishing up with our 2nd Annual Group Campfire.

Transition Camps for Keas to Cubs are being organised all over the country.. this will give Keas a opportunity to get a insight of what Cubs is all about.

Scouts have opened their doors to the Cubs and having combined activities, this giving those Cubs due to go up to Scouts a real hands on approach to the Scout section. Fantastic opportunity.

WBOP Zone had their 18th Wero Camp on the 29th/30th May, this was a fantastic camp, the theme was "Pushing the limits" and this saw the Cubs challenging themselves on the Rockwall, doing branding, dampers, a diability course including braile, wheelchairs, and putting hands through a mystery box to discover what was inside. A interactive play and a challenging game room were amongst all the fun and challenges of the weekend. A great venue and terrific camp was had by all.

National Programmes have seen Cubs supporting their local Foodbanks, churches, charitable organisations with donations of food for those in need. They have been challenged with numerous activities and are learning life skills that will help them in their futures. We (Mark and I) are so pleased to see the Cub section supporting thier communities and becoming a vital part of the community.

We are also so pleased to announce that we have several newly appointed Zone Cub Leaders, we welcome you aboard to the Cub Section, you are a vital link to support and networking in your Zones, with good leadership we will see membership growth and great activities/camps for the youth.

Take care everyone and keep smiling
